Descripción

Estimados,

Están todos cordialmente invitados a la charla que se realizará el próximo miércoles 27 de Septiembre a las 13:30 hrs.

Título:  Location-Assisted Medium Access

Expositor:  Björn Scheuermann is a Full Professor of Communication Networks at TU Darmstadt, Germany. He studied mathematics and computer science. After holding professorships at the universities of Düsseldorf, Würzburg and Bonn and at Humboldt University of Berlin, he moved to TU Darmstadt's electrical engineering department in 2021. His research interests lie in the field of network systems design, where he frequently also considers
aspects of IT security and/or hardware design.

Abstract: "In cooperative position awareness and tracking applications, moving objects share information about their current location with nearby neighbors or with tracking infrastructure. Examples of such systems that are in widespread use today are AIS for cooperative awareness between sea vessels and ADS-B between airplanes. In this talk, we discuss how medium access protocols for such applications can be built much more efficiently by making use of the information conveyed by and through the very application: position data about the nodes in the direct neighborhood. The concept of Location-Assisted Medium Access (LAMA) is introduced here, leading to a contention-free medium access protocol which achieves two-hop collision avoidance with minimal overhead, in particular without any state forwarding. We then extend the concept to overhearing position messages from satellites, where the coverage area is significantly larger and new medium access problems arise. We show how LAMA can be extended to achieve contention-free medium access between nodes which are many radio ranges apart, hence solving an important challenge for such applications."
