DESCRIPTION:Implanted Brain-Machine Interfaces for motor restoration and s
 peech synthesis\n\nAbstract.- Implanted neuroprostheses that combine high-
 density neural recording and precise volitional decoding represent a rapid
 ly advancing technology with great promise for the treatment of neural dis
 eases and the implementation of brain-machine interfaces (BMIs). The appli
 cations of these systems range from the treatment of pathologies such as e
 pilepsy\, Parkinson's disease\, or chronic pain\, to the restoration of mo
 tor function through BMI systems that connect directly to the patient's li
 mbs via neuromodulation techniques\, or the synthesis of real-time intelli
 gible speech for patients who have lost the ability to speak due to trauma
 tic injuries\, laryngeal cancer or neurodegenerative disorders.\n\nThis ta
 lk will highlight the intersection between cutting-edge microelectronics\,
  materials science\, and neural engineering to address the major technical
  and biological challenges posed by the implementation of accurate and lon
 g-term stable implanted neuroprostheses. To this end\, recent advances and
  trends in conformable microelectrode arrays\, low-power neural recorders\
 , and lightweight edge decoders will be discussed.\n\n____________________
