Currently, he is a postdoctoral researcher with the Cyber-Physical Systems Research and Technology Center (CPS-RTC). His research interests include medium-access control protocols, time synchronization, and resource allocation for direct-to-satellite IoT networks.
"Direct-to-Satellite IoT and CubeSats: Efficient connectivity for resource-constrained device"
Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT) enables data exchange from/to constrained devices such as sensors and actuators. When these devices are in remote areas without terrestrial network coverage, direct-to-satellite IoT (DtS-IoT) systems supported by CubeSat nanosatellites offer a cost-effective access network solution. However, this network, composed of terrestrial IoT devices and CubeSats, is characterized by energy, processing, and hardware constraints that limit its performance, as well as an increasing number of terrestrial devices. Therefore, communication protocols designed specifically for these networks are necessary. In this talk, Raydel will present an approach to address this issue: a scalable and energy-efficient medium access control (MAC) protocol that depends exclusively on the sensor nodes and the CubeSat. Likewise, he will present a satellite visibility prediction algorithm for low-cost DtS-IoT systems, which can operate in remote terminals without Internet connectivity.
