DESCRIPTION:Estimados alumnos\n\n \n\nTenemos el agrado de invitarles a l
a charla:\n\n“Direct-to-Satellite IoT and CubeSats: Efficient connectivi
ty for resource-constrained devices”\n\nLa actividad estará a cargo de
e B.S. degree in telecommunications and electronic engineering from the Hi
gher Polytechnic Institute “José Antonio Echeverría\,” currently the
Technological University of Havana (CUJAE)\, Havana\, Cuba\, in 2013\, an
d the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Chile\
 , Santiago\, Chile\, in 2023. From 2013 to 2018\, he was an Instructor Pro
fessor with the Department ofTelecommunications and Telematics\, CUJAE. Fr
om 2024 to 2026\, Dr. Ortigueira was a postdoctoral researcher with the Ad
vanced Center of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. (AC3E)\, Universid
ad Técnica Federico Santa María\, Valparaíso\, Chile. Currently\, he is
a postdoctoral researcher with the Cyber-Physical Systems Research and Te
chnology Center (CPS-RTC). His research interests include medium-access co
ntrol protocols\, time synchronization\, and resource allocation for direc
t-to-satellite IoT networks.\n\n"Direct-to-Satellite IoT and CubeSats: Eff
icient connectivity for resource-constrained device"\n\nAbstract: The Inte
rnet of Things (IoT) enables data exchange from/to constrained devices suc
h as sensors and actuators. When these devices are in remote areas without
  terrestrial network coverage\, direct-to-satellite IoT (DtS-IoT) systems
supported by CubeSat nanosatellites offer a cost-effective access network
solution. However\, this network\, composed of terrestrial IoT devices and
CubeSats\, is characterized by energy\, processing\, and hardware constra
ints that limit its performance\, as well as an increasing number of terre
strial devices. Therefore\, communication protocols designed specifically
for these networks are necessary. In this talk\, Raydel will present an ap
proach to address this issue: a scalable and energy-efficient medium acces
s control (MAC) protocol that depends exclusively on the sensor nodes and
the CubeSat. Likewise\, he will present a satellite visibility prediction
algorithm for low-cost DtS-IoT systems\, which can operate in remote termi
 nals without Internet connectivity.\n\n \n\nhttps://indico.ing.puc.cl/eve
