w-power\, long-range Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Despite its bi
directional design\, communication in LoRaWAN networks is predominantly up
link-oriented\, while downlink transmissions remain constrained by gateway
  limitations\, duty-cycle regulations\, and half-duplex operation. These c
onstraints make downlink communication a significant bottleneck\, despite
its importance for device activation\, acknowledgements\, and actuator con
trol.\n\nWhile existing research has extensively addressed uplink communic
ation and gateway-level constraints\, less attention has been devoted to t
he role of the network server in downlink management. The network server m
akes critical decisions\, including gateway selection and transmission tim
ing\, that directly influence downlink performance. This work shifts the f
ocus to the network server by evaluating the downlink scheduling mechanism
s of two widely used open-source LoRaWAN network servers\, ChirpStack and
The Things Stack (TTS)\, both qualitatively and quantitatively. By compari
ng their performance against an optimal scheduling model\, the evaluation
reveals significant room for improvement. Building on these findings\, fou
r complementary scheduling approaches are investigated\, leveraging priori
tization criteria\, weighted decision mechanisms\, traffic prediction\, an
d duty-cycle management. These approaches aim to improve downlink performa
nce while maintaining compatibility with the LoRaWAN standard and limiting
computational complexity.\n\nThe findings highlight the importance of net
work-server decisions in improving downlink capacity and network performan
ce. They also motivate further research into adaptive scheduling\, resourc
 e allocation\, and emerging deployment scenarios\, including Direct-to-Sat
ellite IoT\, where different communication constraints introduce new chall
enges for downlink management.\n\nBiografía del Expositor\n\nCarlos Fern
ández Hernández is a postdoctoral researcher at the CITI Lab\, jointly a
ffiliated with Inria Lyon and INSA Lyon\, France. He holds a degree in Ele
ctronic Civil Engineering from Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María\
, Chile\, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from INSA Lyon. His research foc
 uses on low-power wide-area networks (LPWANs)\, particularly LoRaWAN\, dow
 nlink communication\, and direct-to-satellite IoT communications.\n\n¡Los
